PODS of Modena province

The province Modena is a stretch of land shaped by the Panaro and Secchia rivers flowing north towards the Po and crowned by the Apennine mountains to the south. Its long history has always rested on agriculture, traditional values and folklore. Here, typical products are not only economic resources but also signs of the bond between the people of Modena and their land. Lambrusco is one of those typical products and definitely the one that best reflects the virtues of its people: it is honest, stubborn, energetic, sparkling, genuine, funny, joyful, easygoing, versatile, engaged albeit never too "engaging". The Lambruscos of Modena come from a family of grape varieties, the most important being Lambrusco di Sorbara, Lambrusco Salamino di Santa Croce and Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro. Since 1970 each of these varietals is vinified to become a different PDO wine, whose characters depend on the genetic traits of the vines but also the soil and microclimate of the different terroirs. The vineyards of the flat lowlands produce grapes brimming with energy, rich in minerals that underline the clean, clear fragrances and dry flavor of the wines. The vineyards in the hilly and semi-hilly areas south of the via Emilia produce a darker and more intense wine with a purplish evanescent foam.
